The first snowflakes clustered as white puffs and wafted gently outside our window–and brought with them the promise of more to come.  I eagerly awaited that ‘more to come’ since we were snug in our new-to-us 5th floor apartment with the bird’s eye view of nature below.  How fun!  When we moved in 2 months ago, I said, “I can’t wait to watch it snow”, and the time had arrived.

We brewed a fresh pot of coffee and waited.  We didn’t tire of watching while those nearly bare tree branches with just a few stubborn leaves slowly accumulated their layers of vanilla icing.  The grass and rocks around the pond were next to turn white; the sidewalks and roads were last—but they, too, gave in to the blanket.  The water in the pond shimmered and shivered as if to say, “Brrrr!”  Daylight was leaving and the ribbon of road was lit only by an occasional car headlight.

All was quiet.  It’s a magical day when it snows and we do not have to go out for any reason at all.  It was as beautiful as I had imagined—our first snowfall at Spring Run.
